Herringbone Table

My sister-in-law inspired this project and she probably doesn't even know it.  She came over the other day and said, 'The next time I come I am sure that table will be painted with a chevron pattern or something.'  I actually inherited the coffee table(it is actually a TV stand but I am using it as a coffee table) from her when we both moved and downsized.  She no longer needed it.  Score!  This is what it looked like before, only
white.

I originally was going to paint it with a chevron pattern (which is a no fail pattern, in my opinion) but then decided a herringbone pattern would be cool too.  I divided the top into 4 sections lengthwise and drew the lines with pencil.  I then marked off each line at 2 inch intervals since that was the width of tape I was using.  To create the pattern I connected those marks diagonally.
I had to use an utility knife to trim off the excess tape and make a straight edge.
Then it was just a matter of spray painting (which my husband did so the baby is fine;)).  I bought the cheapest($1.38) gray spray paint that Walmart sells.

There is almost nothing better than removing the tape to see your pattern.  I LOVE that.:)

And just for kicks, here are some pictures of my living room.

I am sorry if the directions for the table are confusing.  It is hard to explain, but I hope the pictures helped.  If you have any questions, let me know.  Hopefully the next time I post there will be a baby swing in the picture.;)
