The much anticipated laundry room post is here (wink, wink). Here is what the laundry room looked like when we moved in (yeah, they left a LOT of stuff (junk) in the house).
Then this is what the laundry room looked like a week ago.
Don't judge me. You know your laundry room looks like this too. But with a little nagging and a handy husband you can change it.
So first things first. Washer and dryer. We bough matching front loaders about 5 years ago but the dryer is gas and this house had an electric hookup. We bought this cheap dryer off Craigslist to use until we ran the gas. Well, 9 months later, J ran the gas. The front of the washing machine was off (for about 6 months) because J had to adjust something down there. So now we have a matching, working washer and dryer. Woohoo!
Next up, we took down the open shelves. Honestly, who wants open shelves in a laundry room? (No offense to those of you who do). My husband moved his business location and had leftover cabinets. Score. We hung those above the washer and dryer. Then, we did board and batten all around the room. We used 1x3" pre-painted pine. The top is 48" from the baseboard so you only have to cut an 8ft (which is the length you buy it in) piece in half. He also angled the bottom to match up with the baseboards better. I painted everything white to match our existing molding color.
When J removed the lower shelf there was some touch up I had to do with the gray wall color.
Looking better already, right? Now the fun part. Fun for me, not so much for J (Actually, he enjoys projects too. I know things are going well when he is whistling. No whistling, I stay away. There was a lot of whistling going on during this project :)). So I found this tutorial online. J pretty much followed exactly what they did it. I painted my pedestals white to go with everything else. After maneuvering the pedestal into the laundry room (which required taking the door off) we put the washer (which just about killed us) and dryer onto it. A big shout out to J's brother for helping us move everything.
Lastly, J cut down a shelf that would normally go in the cabinet to make 2 small shelves to fill in the space between the 2 cabinets. Anyway, pictures are worth a thousand words so here we go.
It is so nice not to have to bend over to load and unload the clothes.
I made this sign in case I forget the order.;)
Don't you just want to do some laundry in here? Feel free, any time (as long as it is mine).
I used to constantly be closing the door to the laundry room because it was so near the front door. Now I think I will greet people at the door with, "would you like to see my laundry room?"
