Upon a closer inspection you realize a change was needed. J re-tiled the vanity top and we got new sinks and mirrors about 7 years ago. They were the best thing in the room.
However, the cabinet itself was original to the house (which is over 30 years old) and the doors were falling off. Plus, before we moved in a year ago we had to rip the little sliver of counter top over the toilet off in order to install our new (taller) toilet. (I don't understand those little slivers. You know what I'm talking about right)? So there are holes in the drywall and the edge of the vanity tiles are gone.
Moving on to the tub. It was also original to the house and is a lovely 80s off white. Which looks bad all by itself but up against the gray walls it is awful.
The tile on the floor was installed by the previous owner in the 90s sometime. Not great. I know, we are living in squalor over here.;) So on Saturday we started demolition.
Vanity - out.
Bathtub - out.
So that is what the bathroom looks like as of tonight (Sunday). We are going to work on it as we are able and I am going to try not to flip out knowing that it is all torn up and all of our bathroom stuff/clothes are in our bedroom and covered in a fine layer of dust. Ahhhh.....I just got the willies!
It is always a little disconcerting doing a remodel because it is time and money you put in and you don't know for sure how it is going to look (although, with Pinterest you can get a pretty good idea).
Here is what I hope to accomplish in here:
Small (hexagon, maybe) white tile on the floor with dark gray grout.
4" beadboard on the wall (turned horizontally so it looks like planks). Like this:

And hopefully (fingers crossed) a claw foot tub. We are going to wait on the tub until we find the right one at the right price. Since there is a shower in the bathroom already we have the luxury of being picky.
I will update as we get more done. I am giving us until Thanksgiving to get it done. I hope it won't be that long.
