Big Kids Room

Sorry for the long absence but I have a good excuse...we are having another baby!  When I am pregnant I don't do anything in my first trimester, except feel nauseous all day.  And then in the second trimester I have energy and want to get stuff done.  Hence, the finishing of this room.  And then the third trimester comes around and I don't do anything again.  So be prepared for a big lapse in posts again.  But anyway, back to the wonderful second trimester.  Since we have moved into this house my older kids' room has pretty much utilitarian.  Beds on frames with no headboards and a dresser.
I don't have a picture of their room after we moved in but here it is when we bought it.
The only window in that room looked into the garage.
Here is a picture with the window moved to the exterior wall.
I wanted to plank the wall that the window was on because that is what you saw when you looked into the room.  I went down to Lowes and had them cut 3-8' x 4' pieces of project (really thin) plywood into 6" planks.  They charged me $1.50 for a cutting fee.  Well worth it.

We did a random pattern (which is harder than you would think) and cut them with the cross cut saw.  We used a dime as our spacer between boards.  With the nail gun it went pretty quickly.
Okay, here it is now.

The lamp was originally purchased for my husband;s work but didn't fit there.  Score.  The dresser was made by my husband when we were engaged.  We took the feet off and added casters for a fun look.
I bought the oars a long time ago at Ross (I think).  They were red, white, and blue so I repainted the blue parts white and stenciled the '4' on one end.
The rug is new and is from West Elm.  The basket on the floor is from TJ Maxx a while back.

We took the door off the closet and hung a leftover curtain panel from our old master bedroom.  It needs to be ironed but who has time for that?
The scale was also from my husband's work.  Metal bin was from Ikea.  I just ordered the map on Amazon and modge-podged it on a piece of plywood.  Then I white washed the whole thing to make it look a little distressed.
The bunk bed is from Ikea.  I like it because it is not too tall just in case someone takes a tumble off the top.
The stripe blankets are from Target.  I might add some yarn pom poms to the corners for fun.  We'll see.
The lanterns are from Ikea and the beetle pillow is from Target.
I am going to add a few more girly pillows to my daughter's bed eventually.

I love this corner.  For the chalkboard we used to same thin plywood and cut it down to 2' x 4' and painted it with chalkboard paint.  Then just used the nailgun and nailed it straight into the wall.  The border is furring wood($1.98/8 ft piece!) that I stained and cut to fit and also nailed straight into the wall.
Another basket from TJ Maxx.  The pouf is from Target as well as the 'GROW' metal sign (I think it was supposed to go in a garden but don't you think it is appropriate for a kid's room?).
The picture ledge is...from Ikea (are you shocked?).  I printed these awesome prints and plan on spreading them around the room.  The wood monograms were picked up at different places over time.  The '4' is metal and I found it near the mailbox stuff at Home Depot.
This clipboard was a treasure I found at Good Will.  It was $5 and I painted the white stripes on it. I like it.  Those are Norman Rockwell prints of 'A Day in the Life of a Girl/Boy'.  Fun.

Books.  Fan from an estate sale.  Lamp (which I still need to get a shade for) was from Home Depot.

There is still some tweaking to do but I wanted to get some pictures taken before it gets all messed up.  The plan once the new baby comes is to put a trundle under the bunks so all three older kids can sleep in here and the baby will be in the nursery.  Now, all we have to do is figure out how to get 3 kids under the age of 5 to sleep in the same bedroom.  Pray for us.
