I wanted to have matching beds for the kids. I found this tutorial online to make twin platform beds. J made them for me and I painted them white. I will post a picture of the beds in a following post. I decided to make a tufted headboard for each. I had a piece of plywood from L's old bed and J cut it in half to make two matching pieces. Then he drilled 6 holes in each so we could thread the buttons through them to make the tufts. I purchased navy chevron fabric and used some batting that I had. I pulled it tight and stapled it.
I then made buttons (you can buy kits at Walmart) and threaded them through the back and stapled them down tight.
Not so pretty from the back. But I like how the front turned out.
J said it hurts his eyes to look at it.:) I hope with all the other fabrics it will tone it down.
The other project was a sign. Again, I used a piece of plywood that we had in our garage (it was already
the right size so we didn't have to cut it). Is it me, or do we have a lot of scraps lying around this place?;)
First I lightly brushed on white paint.
I then found a saying I liked and drew it on free hand. Then I used craft paint in orange and navy to color in the lines.
It took a few coats to cover up the pen marks (if I were to do it again I would use pencil). I then sanded it to look a bit aged.
More to come! By the way, little brother has slept in his 'big boy' bed 3 nights in a row! Granted there was still giggling at 10pm but he stayed in there.
